Judith Bergquist

Judith Bergquist has been creating exquisite paper art since 2017. Having retired as a theatre artisan, and as a landscape architect/community development professional, she was able to place her creativity first and began finding her unique talents and interest converging into building paper paintings. Self-taught in this medium, her unique, expressive, dimensional 2-D art allows her to be sculptural and create a sense of place.

After years of painting and creating many multi-media works, she became intrigued by the possibility of using paper to build a painting and wanted to see if paper could do all that paint can. Using paper in this way limits her palette and challenges her many skills to create depth, texture, light and shadow. She enjoys the act of building the work and producing the details of the image. Choosing dramatic landscapes and poses of animals not seen as often, to provide visual images that surprise and delight the viewer.

Her artwork of multi-media painting started in an open studio run by Lee Milmon, (2001- 2012). In 2017, she had a studio/work-space as a member of Art Gym in Denver. She currently shares a studio at the Continuum Arts Studio in Denver.

Judith has a wealth of experiences related to the arts which thinks about the viewer. Judith is aware of how one perceives their environment and is lead through a landscape, creating a sense of arrival or the exclamation of a view. All this continues to inform her artwork, creating discovery and an experiential environment.

Judith has shown her work in art shows, galleries and festivals in Metro Denver and has artwork in private collections in the western US.
